The tradition of Guy Fawkes-related bonfires actually began the very same year as the failed coup. The Plot was foiled in the night between the 4th and 5th of November 1605. Already on the 5th, agitated Londoners who knew little more than that their King had been saved, joyfully lit bonfires in thanksgiving. As years progressed, however, the ritual became more elaborate.

HALLOWEEN
Straddling the line between fall and winter, life and death, Halloween is a time of celebration and superstition. It is thought to have originated with the ancient Celtic festival, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts. All Saints’ Day, incorporated some of the traditions of Samhain. The evening before was known as All Hallows’ Eve and later Halloween. Over time, Halloween evolved into a secular, community-based event characterized by child-friendly activities such as trick-or-treating. In a number of countries around the world, people continue to usher in the winter season with gatherings, costumes and sweet treats.

Hi, I'm Mary. I live in Artà and I go to school at IES Llorenç Garcíes i Font. I love gymnastics. I'm a gymnast and I try to do the best every day. My trainer is the world champion Elena Gomez, I enjoy it so much. Also, I love being with my friends. They are the most important people in the world, without counting my family that is always there for me.
